Oumou Sangare - Oumou (2003)

man what can be said about this.. Oumou Sangare is a Malian wassoulou musician, who started being recognized for her singing around the age of 5, taking after her sweet ol mother, another well known wassoulou singer. Wassoulou is actually a region south of the Niger River rather than a type of music, the 'genre' name is from what comes from out there, traditionally jams made out to be hunting and/or celebration songs. This stuff is surprisingly well put together, relaxing to listen to, and even though you can't understand a word it always seems to feel as though there's meaning behind it all. Oh and there is. Turns out this chick is all about women's rights, so almost every song is trying to advocate the issue, whether it be exploring love and freedom in marriage, or refuting polygamy, abuse, or children being forced into arranged marriages.
The thing is though, the songs range from being upbeat and even groovable :

To something soulful and sad in an instant:
Either way it stays incredible the whole way through. Aren't you glad the sad souls got over their nostalgia and hype to bring yall something original? If there's just one regular visitor out there he's effectively having his mind blown right now haha.

Joan Of Arc - Oh Brother (2011)

For some reason or another movie maker won't let me import a i guess i'm forced to actually describe the music, BLAHH. This isn't like any other Joan Of Arc album, first off. It features a few members of indie-rock royalty (Zach Hill from Hella, Rob Lowe from Likins, and others), Oh Brother is the combination of four distinct albums recorded between 2004 and 2010, which were begun but never completed by Joan of Arc curator Tim Kinsella. Known for the elegiac density and free-associative quality of his lyrics, Kinsella has dispensed with words altogether on this album, choosing to break up and splice together various recording sessions in a baroque, tessellating dreamscape of noisy beauty.

Radiohead - The King of Limbs (2011)

Exceptional mastering, nice mellow and cohesive mood. They don't hold back on this one, but at the same time don't get in your face about how great they are.

Dead Drums - Fashion Defense/Human Hair (2010)

grabbed this off of Deleted Scenes, Forgotten Dreams(good blog).
Starts off with short droney pieces and then continues on
with some vocal pieces and throws in some beats for good measure.
Reminds me of those days when i was younger
and the days felt so long and strange, warm and confusing. Sounds a bit like Run DMT.

High Places - High Places

This may be more nostalgia from the months
leading up to when I graduated highschool
but eh.

Chad VanGaalen - Soft Airplane (2008)

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma-Love is a Stream

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma is the head of the Root Strata label. He has played with Tarentel and The Alps. This album sounds like "To Here Knows When" mixed with Tim Hecker which is stupid but thats what it is. There is many many triumphant sounds buried in here. It's a good album to listen to when your brain has been blasted by a long night stoned silly and this girl wont talk to you either. Gorgeous drones, shimmering like metal clouds over a steel town when everyone is going to sleep. I dont know what that means. Listen to this album.
